By layover.ing™ · March 14, 2026 · 2 min read

Lake Eola Park in 2 hours: swan boats, Cuban sandwich, downtown Orlando.

Getting from the airport

MCO to city center: 40 minutes by bus (LYNX 111). Fare is $2. Trains run every 30 minutes. Service runs 05:00 to 22:00. Skip the taxi unless your connection is under 5 hours.

What to do in Orlando

The stops worth making: Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, Kennedy Space Center, International Drive. You do not need the full tourist circuit. Pick two and commit.

Visa and entry

Orlando is visa-free for US passports. No application, no fee. The border process at MCO is standard. Budget 30 minutes.

How long do you need

The minimum useful layover is 4 hours. That gives you 40 minutes in each direction plus about 70 minutes on the ground. Up to 24 hours is a proper overnight.

MCO airport

MCO has 5 lounges. For short connections under 4 hours, the terminal is the destination: food options, showers, and enough space to reset before the next leg.
