Singapore: The Layover That Doesn't Feel Like One

By layover.ing™ · February 18, 2026 · 4 min read

Changi has a waterfall, a butterfly garden, and a slide. You can spend your entire layover without leaving. That would be a mistake.

Transit visa

Singapore offers a free 96-hour transit privilege for most nationalities. You don't even need to apply. Just show your onward ticket at immigration. US, EU, Australian, Canadian passports: walk straight through.

Getting downtown

The MRT Changi Airport branch runs to City Hall in 30 minutes, 2 SGD. Grab card works at fare gates. No planning required.

Six hours well spent

Gardens by the Bay is free during the day. The Supertree Grove walk takes 45 minutes. Lau Pa Sat hawker center is a 12-minute train ride and serves the most reliable laksa you'll find without knowing where to look.
